Dear Congregational Family,
1. TAX DAY! Today is the final day to pay your taxes! The IRS expects to receive 17 million tax returns this week. An estimated 11.6 million will be filing for an extension. Benjamin Franklin famously wrote, “In this world, nothing can be said to be for certain, except death and taxes.” The bad news is that “All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23) and “The wages of sin is death.” (Romans 6:23a) Everyone has sinned and come up short. No one can pay the price of their sin! Death is therefore due to all. Thankfully, the Good News is that “The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23b) Christ Jesus paid our debt, “having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.” (Colossians 2:14)
